About Us

The Herald of Faith is a faith mission, dependent on the goodwill of its donors. Winston Mattsson-Boze has led the mission since 1982, following Henry F. Redman as the president.

It. was begun in 1958 by Joseph Mattsson-Boze. Its name was taken from a magazine originally published in Swedish. We continued to publish until 1971. Our roots actually go back to a Swedish magazine, Sanningens Vittnen, published in 1910, and promoting the early Pentecostal movement. Joseph Mattsson-Boze was involved in editing the successor magazine, Trons Harold (Herald of Faith) from 1935 on.

The mission was begun because of a vision to train national evangelists in Kenya. This work dominated us from 1958-1963. We worked in other parts of Africa as well, including Uganda, Tanzania, and Malawi.

From 1964-1971, we put great emphasis on Argentina, helping to build on the revival begun there in the 1950’s, and preparing many people for the explosion of revival that we are seeing in our day.

We also held short term schools in Singapore, Thailand, Honduras, Yugoslavia, India, and Russia during the 1970’s. Joseph Mattsson-Boze ministered a lot in his native Sweden throughout the 60’s and 70’s.

For many years, HF has been associated with Honduras. We held our first training there in 1974, and have continued regularly until now. The work has expanded substantially, and the church where the first training took place now has about 2500 people in a Sunday service and has 250 cell groups. There are over 20 independent churches, and each of them sponsors several mission churches. There is also a large social outreach.

We worked with refugees from both El Salvador and Nicaragua during the 1980’s when the battle with the Sandinistas was on. We had a Bible school for refugees in the interior of the Miskito coast.

In 1990, God opened a door to teach the Garifuna pastors, a people of African descent who escaped slavery. We have taught them regularly while a team of translators was making the entire Bible available in their own language. That Bible was formally dedicated in July, 2002.

HF ministered in Romania, beginning in 1984, during the Communist time. We continued after the fall of Nicolae Ceaucescu, and helped to establish the Romanian Mission of Chicago. Iosif Isfan leads that mission, and has been God’s instrument in sending millions of dollars of value to Romania.

HF sponsored a team in Spain in the mid 1980’s that visited every home in Toledo province over a period of 3 years.

In the mid 1990’s, God led us back to Africa. We have focused on the needy areas of northern Uganda and southern Sudan. We have built the Cornerstone Resource Center in Kitgum, Uganda to help village pastors get teaching and resources to help them. We also help pastors in Sudan, and have held teachings there on 3 different occasions. This area is rather dangerous because of rebel activity in Uganda and civil war in Sudan, but God has protected us. Charles Okongo coordinates the work in Uganda.

We have worked in Argentina again since about 1991, and have visited churches throughout the nation. Our concentration now is in the northwest quadrant of the country.

We have been in India several times, and expect to continue to be of help. Vijay Komanapalli helps us there.

In the last several years, HF has been in Russia about twice a year, helping younger churches and pastors develop. We work especially in Perm, and the northern Ural mountains.

The Herald of Faith, Inc. serves as the catalyst that encourages the other ministries in their work. Village Pastor (Steve Fitzpatrick) and Full Stature Ministries (Milton McElvain) have been raised up through our efforts, and we continue to work closely together. Hundredfold Ministries rose up separately, but we have were closely associated with Jim & Carolyn Murphy over the last several years, until his untimely death in August, 2007. Hundredfold has a wonderful website with well prepared and concise teachings available. More recently Rick Eudy has worked with Jim in teaching, especially in Africa

HF works in 4 main areas:

  • Teaching provincial and village pastors.
  • Helping with social needs.
  • Providing materials in local languages as it is possible.
  • Evangelizing and training people in evangelism.
